APC Chairman Yilwatda Speaks on Wike, Governors’ Rift, Says Dialogue Will Resolve Dispute

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the party will rely on dialogue, maturity and mutual respect to manage the ongoing disagreement between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and some APC governors.

Yilwatda said political differences were not unusual in a democratic setting, but stressed that disagreements among party stakeholders should be handled in a way that protects the unity and stability of the APC.

The dispute has largely centred on Wike’s involvement in the emerging Rainbow Coalition and the differing positions of the minister and APC governors over political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While Wike has maintained his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, some APC governors have expressed concerns that the coalition could affect the party’s candidates and political structure.

Yilwatda’s position indicates that the APC leadership intends to manage the differences through engagement rather than allowing the disagreements to escalate into a broader crisis within the party.

The APC chairman also emphasised the importance of respecting political rights and maintaining the party’s collective focus as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
