BREAKING NEWS: Nigerians in Chicago Hold Rally in Support of Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid
Members of the Nigerian community and supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gathered in Chicago, United States, over the weekend to express their support for his potential re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
The rally, which took place at Washington Park on Chicago’s South Side, was organised by the Nigeria Diaspora Initiative (NDI) Chicago and attracted Nigerians from different parts of the Chicago metropolitan area. Participants said the event was aimed at demonstrating their commitment to Nigeria’s democratic growth, national development, and continued progress.
Speaking during the gathering, the General Coordinator of NDI Chicago, Tunji Quadri, described the rally as more than just a political event. According to him, the initiative reflects the diaspora community’s interest in promoting continuity, stability, and active engagement in Nigeria’s affairs.
Quadri noted that many Nigerians living abroad may not be able to travel home during election periods but can still contribute to the democratic process by encouraging their relatives and friends in Nigeria to participate in elections.
He urged members of the diaspora community to reach out to their loved ones and encourage them to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and take part in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NDI Chicago coordinator also stressed the importance of political awareness and informed decision-making. He encouraged Nigerians abroad to discuss government policies and reforms with their families back home, saying citizens should evaluate political choices based on facts and a clear understanding of policy directions.
According to him, as political parties and candidates begin presenting different visions ahead of the 2027 elections, voters should carefully assess the available options and make decisions they believe will best serve Nigeria’s future.
The rally highlights the growing involvement of Nigerians in the diaspora in the country's political discourse and their continued interest in shaping Nigeria’s democratic journey from abroad.
