BREAKING NEWS: APC Failed Osun People During Its Time in Power – Imole Campaign Council
The Imole Campaign Council (TICC), which is leading the re-election campaign of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing the people of Osun State during its years in government.
In a statement released on Saturday, the spokesperson for the council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the alleged poor performance and neglect of critical sectors under the APC administration between 2018 and 2022 were major reasons why voters rejected former Governor Gboyega Oyetola at the polls.
The council's reaction followed comments made by the APC governorship candidate for the August 15, 2026 governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, who recently promised equitable development and other reforms if elected governor.
Responding to the promises, Olajengbesi described the APC's campaign message as ironic, arguing that the party is now promising projects and initiatives it failed to implement when it had the opportunity to govern the state.
According to him, the current promises being made by APC leaders amount to an acknowledgment that their previous administration left many important sectors underdeveloped and in need of urgent attention.
The campaign council maintained that Governor Adeleke's administration has focused on delivering measurable results rather than making political promises. It highlighted achievements in infrastructure, workers' welfare, healthcare, education, and social intervention programs as evidence of the government's commitment to improving the lives of residents.
Olajengbesi noted that under the previous administration, pensioners and persons living with disabilities were not covered by any health insurance scheme, while health workers reportedly went four years without receiving hazard allowance payments.
He stated that within three years, the Adeleke administration enrolled more than 24,000 pensioners and over 10,000 persons living with disabilities into the state's health insurance program. The government also cleared outstanding hazard allowance arrears owed to health workers and rehabilitated over 200 primary healthcare centres across Osun State.
The council further claimed that the state earned recognition for its healthcare improvements, emerging as one of the top-performing states in primary healthcare delivery in both 2024 and 2025.
In the area of economic empowerment, the council said the administration provided over ₦2 billion in support to cooperative societies and small business owners, while more than 15,000 businesses reportedly received grants of ₦250,000 each.
The statement also highlighted improvements in the state's financial position, claiming that domestic debt was reduced from ₦148 billion to ₦83 billion, while external debt dropped from $91 million to $75 million under Adeleke's leadership.
Additionally, the administration was credited with recruiting over 2,000 teachers, constructing more than 300 classrooms, and providing financial support to over 8,000 farmers, with some beneficiaries reportedly receiving grants of up to ₦8 million.
The council praised the governor's road construction and infrastructure projects, describing them as visible evidence of equitable governance across the state.
Olajengbesi also criticized Bola Oyebamiji's role in the previous administration, alleging that Osun experienced significant economic challenges while he supervised the state's finances.
He concluded by stating that the APC's renewed promises should be viewed with caution, arguing that the party is seeking votes based on commitments it failed to fulfill when it previously held power in Osun State.
