The controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Delta North has continued to attract widespread attention, with many party members and political observers describing the situation as a major test of the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

Rather than being viewed solely as a political rivalry between Senator Ned Nwoko and former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the dispute has sparked broader discussions about fairness, transparency, and respect for party primary elections.

The situation has been further complicated by allegations that Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is supporting Okowa’s emergence as the APC candidate. Nwoko’s supporters have also highlighted his contributions to the APC since joining the party, describing him as a key figure in strengthening the party’s presence across Delta North. One of his most prominent political campaigns has been the push for the creation of Anioma State, a cause that has received significant backing from many residents of the area. In addition, he has been credited with supporting infrastructure projects, community development initiatives, and various constituency empowerment programmes.

His philanthropic efforts, including scholarship schemes, healthcare assistance, and youth empowerment projects, have further enhanced his popularity among constituents.

Observers warn that unresolved disputes over primary election outcomes could discourage party members from actively participating in future internal elections. They argue that confidence in the democratic process may decline if members believe that electoral victories can be overturned through political influence rather than respected according to established procedures.

As Delta North remains a strategically important district for the APC, many stakeholders believe that a transparent resolution of the dispute is crucial for maintaining party unity and strengthening public trust.
