Breaking news: People Refused To cast there Vote Until Wike Arrived – Austin Aigbe
There was a mild drama and confusion during the FCT Area Council elections on Saturday as some voters reportedly refused to cast their ballots. Development specialist Austin Aigbe, who monitored the exercise, revealed that many residents were waiting for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to show up at their polling units before they would participate.
Speaking on Arise TV, Aigbe expressed shock at how much influence the Minister’s presence had on the electorate. While visiting areas like Kuje, he found people just sitting and waiting. "I was told that they are expecting him to come. They won’t vote until he comes. What are they expecting?" Aigbe asked, wondering why voters felt the Minister's physical presence was necessary for a local election.
Aigbe also criticized the heavy security and movement restrictions ordered by the Minister, saying it made the FCT feel like a "war zone." He noted that the tensed atmosphere and Wike's strong political statements might have discouraged some while leaving others confused.
Many residents in the suburbs expressed a mix of hope and fear, unsure if their votes would truly count without "orders from above."
