BREAKING NEWS: Makinde, Wike Camps Set For Showdown At PDP HQ Today
Tënsîon is mounting at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as rival factions prepare for a possible confrontation over control of the facility.
The dispute pits a 13-member caretaker committee backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against the Tanimu Turaki-led faction supported by governors including Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi.
The crîsîs stems from disagreements over the legitimacy of the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15, 2025.
Although a Federal High Court in Ibadan overturned the convention outcome, the Turaki camp has filed an appeal and insists the matter remains in court.
Samuel Anyanwu, national secretary of the Wike-backed faction, said the secretariat would reopen on Monday with police assistance, citing the Ibadan court judgment.
Caretaker committee spokesman Jogudo Mohammed confirmed that the building would be fumigated and cleaned before activities resume.
He added that the sale of nomination forms for the March convention would begin on Tuesday at the secretariat.
Mohammed stressed that filing an appeal does not suspend a court judgment unless a higher court grants a stay of execution.
He warned that anyone restrained by the court from acting as a national officer who attempts to obstruct activities could face contempt proceedings.
However, the Turaki-led National Working Committee cautioned against what it described as self-help.
National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong said any violence or damage arising from the takeover would be the responsibility of the police.
Former PDP National Vice Chairman (South West), Eddy Olafeso, expressed confidence that the Court of Appeal would resolve the crisis and preserve the party’s unity
