His Cup Is Full And All Nigerians Must Rise Up And Push For His Resignation —Okonkwo Hits Akpabio

Veteran actor, lawyer, and political commentator Kenneth Okonkwo has called for the immediate resignation or removal of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following the upper chamber’s rejection of proposals to mandate electronic transmission of election results from polling units.

The actor-turned-politician made his position known on Thursday, February 5, 2026, via a post on his official X account.

Okonkwo, who previously served as spokesperson for the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign, expressed outrage at what he described as a unilateral decision by the Senate leadership that undermines democratic principles.

He accused Akpabio of bypassing proper legislative procedures to remove provisions for real-time electronic reporting of results, a move Okonkwo claimed compromises transparency in elections.

“Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, should resign his position as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria immediately or be removed from office for being an enemy of democracy,” Okonkwo wrote.

He went on to allege that Akpabio acted without consulting other senators or allowing for proper debate on the amendments to the Electoral Act.

The controversy centers on the rejected proposals to enforce the electronic transmission of voting results directly from polling stations, a reform widely regarded as crucial to curbing electoral fraud and ensuring credibility in elections.

Okonkwo described the Senate’s decision as a deliberate setback for electoral transparency and warned of broader consequences if the situation is left unaddressed.

His cup is full and all Nigerians must rise up and push for his resignation,” Okonkwo declared, emphasizing the urgency of public action. He further suggested that continued inaction could set a dangerous precedent for the country’s democracy, including what he described as the potential for life-long political entrenchment of the current presidency.
