BREAKING NEWS: Gov Fubara Does Not Bark, Yet Wike Has Been Unable to Impeach Him - Umar Sani (PDP Chieftian)

Umar Sani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asserted that the political tide in Rivers State has decisively turned against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement on his X handle on Monday, February 2, 2026, Sani maintained that Governor Siminalayi Fubara now commands the unwavering loyalty of the grassroots.

According to Sani, this shift in local support has unsettled Wike, allegedly provoking a series of frantic and destructive outbursts characterized by incidents of arson.

Sani also suggested that without the continued political cover of President Bola Tinubu, the recent episodes of unrest would have likely signaled the collapse of Wike’s political relevance.

He noted that while Fubara remains relatively quiet in his approach to governance, his ability to withstand repeated impeachment attempts serves as a significant indicator of where the true balance of power now resides.

The PDP chieftain dismissed Wike’s recent public maneuvers as mere theatrics and empty "gra gra," arguing that the minister’s influence is rapidly waning.

Sani said, "Fubara does not bark, yet Wike has been unable to impeach him. That fact alone is a clear signal of where real power now lies and a strong indication that Wike’s influence is waning. Forget the bluster, theatrics, and Gra gra; the tide is already turning."

The remarks come amid a severe legislative assault on the executive.

The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, recently activated a formal impeachment process against Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.

Lawmakers have leveled seven allegations of gross misconduct, including extra-budgetary spending, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and the withholding of funds from the Assembly Service Commission.

Despite these aggressive moves, Fubara recently secured an interim injunction from a High Court in Oyigbo, effectively restraining the Chief Judge from constituting an investigative panel and momentarily stalling the Assembly's third attempt to remove him from office.
