BREAKING NEWS: APC Chieftain Dismisses Mass Defections to APC, They Are All Wasting Their Time.

Breaking news: APC Chieftain Dismisses Mass Defections to APC, They Are All Wasting Their Time.

Amidst the ongoing wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain Sani Shinkafi has described the defections as immaterial and a waste of time, invoking the example of Peter Obi's remarkable performance in 2023 to argue that structure and defections count for little when the masses are determined to vote for change.

According to a report, Shinkafi, during an interview, acknowledged the recent influx of governors and parliamentarians into the APC but dismissed their significance.

"I look at it in my own opinion as political normalism, and at the same time I look at it as immaterial. They are wasting their time," Shinkafi stated.

He traced Obi's political evolution, noting that he contested elections under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2003 against candidates like Chris Ngige and Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife. He added that at that time, APGA had no structure in Anambra State, but when genuine election results were exhibited at the Election Petition Tribunal, Obi was shown to have won 17 out of 24 local governments in Anambra.

Regarding the 2023 presidential election, Shinkafi noted that at the time of Obi's defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Labour Party, the Labour Party did not possess a single councillor, member of the House of Assembly, National Assembly member, governor, or president. Yet, Obi's performance shocked the political establishment.

He recounted that Obi defeated Tinubu in his home state of Lagos, and defeated the director general of the Tinubu campaign organization in Plateau State. In Nasarawa State, he defeated the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu, a two-term governor, senator, and sitting national chairman—on his own doorstep.

Shinkafi noted that in the Federal Capital Territory, Obi's Labour Party defeated both the APC and the PDP. Across the entire Southeast, where the APC boasted a governor in David Umahi, Obi swept all five states. Similarly in the South-South, he defeated Delta State, the home turf of Atiku's running mate, Governor Okowa. Even Adams Oshiomhole, a former national party chairman and sitting senator, was defeated in Edo State.
