BREAKING NEWS: Wike Also abused late Buhari as a president, and he freely operated as governor—Ayiga

According to a report by Trust TV, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Comrade Musa Ayiga, a retired civil servant and veteran labour activist, has highlighted the significant autonomy Nyesom Wike exercised during his tenure in Rivers State to explain the current administrative friction within the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

During a public affairs broadcast, Ayiga remarked that the former governor’s independent leadership style often put him at odds with the federal government without facing repercussions. Ayiga said, “Wike was abusing Buhari even as a president, and they gave him a free hand as the governor to operate.”

The labour leader argued that this history of operating without external interference has shaped the minister’s current management of the FCT. He suggested that the same sense of independence is now manifesting in a way that complicates the governance of the nation’s capital.

Ayiga clarified that the current industrial action by FCTA employees does not stem from a shortage of financial resources but rather from deep-seated administrative oversight and neglected worker concerns.

He noted that staff members are grappling with stagnant promotions, a lack of essential work equipment, unpaid salary arrears, and overdue promotion benefits, all of which have culminated in the decision to strike.

The unrest, which initially surfaced in specific departments, has expanded to include critical agencies such as the Abuja Geographic Information System, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, and the FCT Weather Board.

Ayiga criticised the administration’s response to the crisis, noting that officials chose to pursue legal action in court rather than engaging in sincere negotiations with the labour unions, which only served to worsen the situation.

Furthermore, Ayiga expressed alarm over the failure to remit National Housing Fund contributions and pension deductions. He characterised these lapses as a major violation of trust that jeopardises the future financial stability of the workforce.
