BREAKING NEWS: Kwara CP warns personnel against extortion, phone search
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Adekimi Ojo, has cautioned officers and men of the Command against misconduct, extortion, harassment, and human rights abuses, declaring that such practices will no longer be tolerated under his leadership.
Speaking during a briefing with Deputy Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders, CP Ojo stressed the need for professionalism and respect for human rights in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
The CP cautioned officers against interfering in purely civil matters without criminal elements, unlawful phone searches, and the wrongful profiling of youths as “Yahoo boys” or internet fraudsters. He described such actions as grave offences that would attract the most severe disciplinary measures.
Reassuring members of the public, especially students and young people, the police boss pledged that the Command would uphold the dignity and rights of all citizens as enshrined in the Constitution.
He urged youths to remain law-abiding, promising that the era of intimidation and wrongful profiling was over in Kwara State.
On enforcement, CP Ojo announced that a clampdown on vehicles with tinted glasses without valid permits will begin on October 2, 2025.
He warned that offenders caught with fake, invalid, or no permits would be charged to court within 24 hours.
The Command advised motorists to always carry the original copies of their tinted glass permits and urged residents to report any cases of extortion related to the enforcement exercise through official complaint channels
