The Kwara State University, Malete, has expelled 175 students for various infractions.
In a statement, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, the Acting Director of University Relations said the move became imperative as the students were engaged in serious offenses ranging from academic dishonesty, theft, and falsification of admission credentials.
Other infractions according to Dr Aliyu also include assault, fraudulent activities, membership in unauthorized groups, and illegal possession of a weapon.
The statement maintained that the decision to expel the students followed a thorough investigation by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, which conducted hearings from October 2021 to March 2024.
The management reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of discipline and academic excellence, aiming to produce graduates who excel in character and knowledge.
Expulsion in Nigeria’s citadel of learning has gradually become a concern.
Recently, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) raised alarm about some institutions collaborating with students to deceive the public with fake certificates.
The Board identified 3,000 fraudulent graduates who did not attend any educational institution
