BREAKING NEWS: SDP’s Peter Obafemi Declares Senate Bid, Promises Reform-Focused Representation for Ekiti North

SDP’s Peter Obafemi Declares Senate Bid, Promises Reform-Focused Representation for Ekiti North

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for Ekiti North Senatorial District, Peter Obafemi, has declared that his bid for the Senate in the 2027 general elections is driven by a desire to promote reforms, strengthen representation and contribute to Nigeria’s national development.

Obafemi, who contested the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election on the platform of the SDP, said his decision to seek a senatorial seat reflects his continued commitment to public service despite the outcome of the governorship poll.

The businessman and aviation professional made the remarks in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Friday.

According to him, the Senate provides a significant constitutional platform through which elected representatives can address structural challenges affecting citizens and advance policies that align with the ideals of the SDP.

“Representation in the Senate is a serious constitutional platform to champion the structural issues that shape our daily lives in line with the ideals of the SDP,” Obafemi said.

He also identified constitutional recognition of traditional institutions as one of the priorities he would pursue if elected.

Obafemi argued that granting traditional institutions clearer constitutional recognition would enhance the role of traditional rulers in community peace-building, grassroots security and local development.

He said his campaign would focus on issues affecting the people of Ekiti North and on promoting legislative reforms capable of improving governance and strengthening national development.
