Cristiano Ronaldo’s outstanding 2008 Ballon d’Or-winning performance is leading a fan poll to determine the greatest Ballon d’Or winner of all time, having secured 75 per cent of the votes cast so far.
The organisers announced the development in a publication on the official Ballon d’Or website on Tuesday, confirming that voting will remain open until October 27, with the final results scheduled for announcement on October 28.
The poll, titled **Greatest Ballon d’Or of All Time (BOAT)**, gives football fans the opportunity to select the most remarkable individual performance by a winner of the prestigious award.
Ronaldo’s 2008 triumph, which marked his first Ballon d’Or title, has emerged as the clear favourite among voters, highlighting the lasting impact of his performances during that period.
Argentina and Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi’s 2012 Ballon d’Or victory currently ranks second, with nine per cent of the votes. Ronaldo’s 2017 triumph occupies third position, having attracted six per cent.
The poll has generated interest among football fans as supporters compare some of the most memorable individual seasons in the history of the award.
With voting still open until October 27, the standings could change before the final results are announced on October 28.
