Nuno Mendes: Portugal Players Not Involved in Decisions Over Ronaldo’s Future
Portugal defender Nuno Mendes has said the national team is prepared to welcome any player who is selected for the squad, while stressing that decisions concerning Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation are beyond the authority of the players.
Mendes made the remarks as Portugal focus on their upcoming fixture at the Estádio do Dragão, with the squad concentrating on implementing the instructions of head coach Jorge Jesus.
According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reported the comments on X on Friday, Mendes was asked about Ronaldo’s situation and maintained that the players’ priority remains their responsibilities on the pitch.
“He is a player for the national team, and we are more focused on what we have to do now and on what the coach wants to bring to us,” Mendes said.
He added: “As for the rest, it’s not for us to decide.”
Mendes’ comments underline the players’ focus on their immediate international commitments, leaving decisions regarding Ronaldo’s involvement with the national team to the relevant authorities and coaching staff.
