BREAKING: Amaechi Fires Back at Wike, Recalls Their Political History, Lists Projects
Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has responded sharply to recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as the political disagreement between the two former allies continues to intensify.
Amaechi, while speaking about his long-standing relationship with Wike, recalled the period when he served as governor of Rivers State and Wike was seeking a position in his administration.
According to Amaechi, Wike had expressed interest in becoming the state’s Commissioner for Finance, but he chose to appoint him as Chief of Staff instead.
“I was once his boss, whether he likes it or not. I hired him, and I could have said no,” Amaechi said.
The former governor also questioned Wike’s account of his political journey, alleging that the current FCT Minister played a significant role in securing several of the political positions he later occupied.
“He made himself Chief of Staff, he made himself Governor, he made himself Minister, and he made himself Local Government Chairman,” Amaechi stated.
Amaechi Defends His Record as Rivers Governor
Responding to criticisms of his performance in office, Amaechi highlighted some of the infrastructure projects executed during his tenure as Rivers State governor.
He said his administration constructed six flyovers as well as several primary and secondary schools, insisting that he did not make a habit of seeking publicity around the projects.
“I built six flyovers and I didn’t make noise. I didn’t invite Governors or the President to come and commission them,” he said.
Lists Projects as Transportation Minister
Amaechi also defended his record as Minister of Transportation, listing several major transportation projects that he said were initiated, completed or significantly advanced during his tenure.
Among the projects he mentioned were the Lagos-Ibadan railway, the Lekki Deep Seaport, the Kano Inland Dry Port and the Kaduna-Abuja section of the railway.
He further said that the Kano-Kaduna railway project was also commenced during his time as minister.
Amaechi’s latest comments come amid an increasingly public exchange between him and Wike, with both men revisiting their political history and records in government.
Their latest confrontation has added another layer to the growing political tension surrounding the 2027 general elections, particularly as former allies and political figures continue to reposition themselves ahead of the polls.
