Wike Not Above the Will of Rivers People, Says Idris

Zekeri Idris, spokesperson and media aide to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has declared that former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is not greater than the people of Rivers State and cannot determine their political future.

Speaking during an interview on Symfoni Television, Idris challenged what he described as Wike’s perceived influence over the political direction of Rivers State, insisting that the electorate would ultimately decide the outcome of future elections.

According to Idris, Wike is not a candidate in any upcoming election but remains a government appointee and political observer. He maintained that Peter Obi continues to enjoy significant support across Rivers State and argued that electoral records from previous polls demonstrate the Labour Party's strength in the state.

The Obi aide expressed confidence that Rivers voters would resist any attempt by political figures to assume complete control over the electorate. He further stated that no individual should be viewed as indispensable or above the democratic will of the people.

Idris urged the people of Rivers State to assert their political independence and prove that leadership ultimately rests with the electorate rather than any single political actor.

In his remarks, he said:

“Wike is not God. Any man who plays God will fall. Man is not God and God can never be a man. Wike, even if God wants to transform and become a man, he will not come in the form of Wike. So the people of Rivers State should prove to Wike that he is not more than he thinks he is.”

His comments come amid growing political discussions and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with key political figures already positioning themselves and their parties for the next electoral cycle.
