BREAKING: Osun NNPP Chairman Tosin Odeyemi Resigns, Becomes Acting Chairman of Democratic Leadership Alliance

A major political development has unfolded in Osun State as the Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, has officially resigned from the party and emerged as the Acting State Chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA).

Odeyemi's resignation was communicated through a formal letter dated July 16, 2026, addressed to the National Chairman of the NNPP. In the letter, he notified the party of his decision to withdraw his membership and requested that his name and personal details be removed from the party’s register.

While the former NNPP chairman did not disclose the reasons behind his departure, the move has sparked discussions within political circles across the state.

Just days after his resignation, Odeyemi publicly unveiled his new political platform and confirmed his appointment as the pioneer Acting Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance in Osun State.

His appointment was conveyed in a letter dated July 17, 2026, signed by the National Chairman of the DLA, Samuel Memeh. According to the letter, the decision was approved by the party’s National Executive Committee, which entrusted him with the responsibility of establishing and strengthening the party’s presence across Osun State.

The appointment letter outlined several key responsibilities for Odeyemi, including building and maintaining party structures, promoting the party’s constitution and ideology, and reporting the activities of the Osun chapter directly to the National Working Committee.

Speaking after accepting the appointment, Odeyemi expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Democratic Leadership Alliance for the confidence placed in him.

“I thank the National Chairman, the National Executive Committee, and the National Working Committee for entrusting me with this responsibility. I accept this appointment with humility and a strong sense of responsibility,” he stated.

He further revealed that his immediate focus would be on uniting members, fostering discipline within the party, and positioning the DLA as a viable political alternative for the people of Osun State.

“My immediate priority is to unite genuine members, promote discipline within the party, and position the DLA as a credible alternative for residents of Osun seeking purposeful leadership,” he added.

Odeyemi also assured the party’s national leadership of transparent administration in the state chapter and called on members and stakeholders to rally behind the new political movement.

“We will run the party with transparency and commitment. I call on members and stakeholders to support this new political platform,” he said.

The development marks a significant shift in Osun's political landscape as the Democratic Leadership Alliance begins to establish its presence ahead of future political contests.
