BREAKING NEWS: Benue’s Development Depends on State Leadership, Not Tinubu — Akume

BREAKING NEWS: Benue’s Development Depends on State Leadership, Not Tinubu — Akume

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has called on political leaders in Benue State to put aside their differences and work together for the progress of the state, stressing that President Bola Tinubu should not be blamed for any shortcomings in Benue’s development.

Akume made the appeal while hosting leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Benue State’s three senatorial districts in Abuja. During the meeting, he urged stakeholders to embrace reconciliation and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Benue State governor said he holds no resentment toward any political figure in the state and extended an olive branch to all leaders, emphasizing the need for collective action to restore Benue’s political and economic fortunes.

According to Akume, President Tinubu’s administration has continued to fulfill its responsibilities to both the nation and the states, including Benue.

“If we can’t develop our state, it’s not the fault of Mr. President. He is doing what he is supposed to do for the country and for the states, and Benue is no exception,” Akume stated.

The SGF noted that the Federal Government has made significant financial resources available to states and local governments through allocations from the Federation Account. He argued that with these resources in place, the responsibility for effective governance and development now rests largely with state authorities.

Akume further assured APC leaders that he remains committed to protecting the interests of Benue people and fostering peace among political stakeholders, regardless of recent political disagreements within the state.

He stressed that unity among leaders is essential for achieving meaningful development and strengthening support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In his closing remarks, Akume urged political stakeholders to remain focused on cooperation and good governance, expressing optimism that a united Benue would be better positioned for growth and political stability ahead of the 2027 elections.
