Breaking News: Gov Fubara Picks APC Governorship Interest Form to Run for 2027
A high-powered delegation of prominent elders and political stakeholders in Rivers State has taken a bold step towards the 2027 governorship race, purchasing the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms on behalf of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
The group, led by Honourable Awaji-Inombek Abiante, a member of the House of Representatives, described the move as a reflection of the overwhelming desire by Rivers people for the governor to seek re-election, calling it a “popular mandate.”
Speaking to our News Reporters, Hon. Abiante said the decision was not initiated by Governor Fubara himself, but driven by widespread grassroots support across the state.
“This is not unusual in a democracy. Every four years, this process repeats itself. What is most important is the will of the people, and the people of Rivers State have made their position very clear,” he stated.
He drew parallels with similar past actions, noting that political associates had previously obtained nomination forms for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as part of Nigeria’s established political culture.
Abiante disclosed that the funds for the forms were raised through small contributions from ordinary supporters, emphasizing that the move represents a genuine “people-powered” initiative.
In a strong message to the Governor, the delegation made it clear that declining the request would be difficult.
“He did not send us, but he cannot turn his back on the people. This is a collective decision by Rivers people,” Abiante declared.
The group justified their action by highlighting the Fubara administration’s developmental achievements, particularly the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project, improved road infrastructure in Andoni and other areas, as well as deliberate efforts to develop coastal communities and harness opportunities in Nigeria’s blue economy.
They also pointed to the increased global visibility of the state through international engagements.
As political activities for the 2027 general elections begin to heat up, the move by these Rivers elders signals an early realignment and strategic positioning within the state’s political landscape.
It remains to be seen whether Governor Fubara will formally accept the forms and declare his intention to seek a second term in office.
