BREAKING NEWS: APC Backs Fubara’s Re-election Bid as Rivers 2027

According to a report by vanguard Polîtîcal activities ahead of the 2027 general elections in Rivers State are gaining momentum, with indications that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is increasingly positioning itself behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara for a second term.

Reports suggest that Fubara’s move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in December 2025 following a prolonged political rift with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike has significantly reshaped the state’s political alignment.

Since his defection, several influential APC leaders have begun openly expressing support for his re-election ambition. 

Prominent party figures such as Ajibola Basiru and Nentawe Yilwatda have reportedly stated that the party will stand behind Fubara if he secures the APC ticket through its primaries. 

This development reflects the APC’s broader strategy to strengthen its influence in the South-South region, especially in politically and economically important Rivers State.

Party stakeholders are also encouraging unified support for both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Fubara in the coming elections, signaling an effort to align electoral strategies at both federal and state levels. 

Meanwhile, grassroots backing has also grown, with the Ijaw Youth Council endorsing Fubara, further boosting his political standing in the region.

Despite these developments, lingering tensions between Fubara and Wike continue to cast uncertainty over the political landscape. 

Analysts believe that ongoing internal disagreements and shifting alliances could play a decisive role in determining the balance of power in Rivers State.
