prominent Rivers State elder and chieftain of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), High Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, has advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take a more decisive stand in the ongoing political struggle in the state.
Speaking on the lingering crisis between the Governor and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, Sara-Igbe warned that seeking peace at the expense of his mandate could be detrimental to his administration. He urged the Governor not to allow external forces to undermine his authority.
"You cannot have true peace if you are afraid to defend your rights. The Governor must assert his authority as the leader of the state. If he continues to be too quiet, his opponents will take it for weakness," Sara-Igbe stated.
The elder statesman emphasized that while peace is desirable, it should not be the "peace of the graveyard" where the Governor is rendered ineffective. He called on Fubara to fully take charge of the state's political structure to prevent further distractions.
Sara-Igbe also cautioned federal authorities against taking sides, warning that the stability of Rivers State is critical to the Niger Delta region.
