Breaking news: Akpabio Is Not Serious, He Turns Everything Into A Comedy -Sen Ndume
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has expressed concern over Senate President Godswill Akpabio's tendency to turn serious legislative matters into jokes.
During an interview with Channels TV, Ndume acknowledged that Akpabio's humor occasionally helps reduce tension but warned it can become problematic when overused. "Sometimes, you will think that Akpabio is not serious, everything he will turn into a comedy. He will joke over it. But sometimes that helps to douse the tension. But when it happens most of the time, then it becomes something of a problem," he stated.
The senator also raised concerns about the Senate President's perceived lack of neutrality during legislative sessions. "I've complained several times that during our sittings, the Senate President is supposed to be a neutral person sitting down there. But when you make a mistake as a presiding officer of seeming to take sides, then you are putting yourself in trouble," Ndume said.
He explained that all decisions should reflect the collective will of the 108 senators, excluding the Senate President, noting that Akpabio's elevation to the position requires him to sacrifice certain privileges, including his right to contribute extensively to debates, in order to function as an impartial presiding officer rather than an active senator.
