The Rivers State House of Assembly has openly dismissed a High Court order seeking to halt the ongoing impeachment process against Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
According to the Assembly’s spokesman, the lawmakers are not aware of any valid court order and insist that Section 188(10) of the Nigerian Constitution clearly bars courts from intervening in the impeachment of a sitting governor.
The Assembly maintains that the process will continue strictly within constitutional limits, despite the court’s interim injunction restraining the Speaker and the Chief Judge.
The development further deepens the political tension in Rivers State as the standoff between the legislature and the judiciary escalates.
