BREAKING NEWS: NDDC Reaffirms Security‑Development Partnership with Operation Delta Safe

NDDC Reaffirms Security‑Development Partnership with Operation Delta Safe

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has renewed its pledge to work hand‑in‑hand with Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) to secure the region and fast‑track sustainable development.

During a courtesy visit by OPDS Commander Vice Admiral O.D.F. Oladipo, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku stressed that “security is essential for sustainable development and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to accelerate development in the Niger Delta.” He added that development and security are mutually reinforcing, and that the NDDC’s work complements the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace.
Vice Admiral Oladipo praised the existing collaboration, noting that improved security protects lives and property, boosts crude‑oil production, and strengthens both regional and national economies. He called for deeper cooperation to enhance operational effectiveness and sustain peace across the Niger Delta.

The partnership comes on the heels of a series of concrete steps taken by the NDDC to bolster maritime security. Last week, the commission unveiled a state‑of‑the‑art naval facility at Ayakoro, Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa State, featuring an administrative block, accommodation, a 40‑man houseboat, gunboats, and solar power systems. Rear Admiral Noel Madugu, commander of Operation Delta Safe, said the new assets will “enhance maritime surveillance and improve operational responses to combat illegal activities in the region’s waterways.”

Dr. Ogbuku added that the NDDC will continue to support security agencies in securing waterways and boosting the emerging blue economy, noting that President Tinubu’s strategic investment in security has already helped raise crude‑oil output from 1 million to 2.2 million barrels per day.
