The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, on Thursday commissioned 12 fully equipped ambulances for deployment to hospitals across Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery in the nation’s capital.
According to a media post by Honourable Lere Olayinka, Media Aide to the FCT Minister, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, the ambulances were procured to enhance rapid medical response and improve access to emergency services for residents of the FCT.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Wike said the provision of the ambulances underscores the commitment of the FCT Administration to prioritising the health and wellbeing of residents.
He noted that timely access to emergency medical services remains critical to saving lives, particularly in cases of accidents, medical emergencies, and critical illnesses.
The minister explained that the ambulances are fully equipped with modern medical facilities and will be distributed strategically to government hospitals to ensure efficient coverage across the FCT.
He added that the initiative aligns with ongoing reforms in the health sector aimed at improving service delivery and emergency preparedness.
Wike urged hospital managers and relevant authorities to ensure the ambulances are properly maintained and used strictly for their intended purpose.
He reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s resolve to continue investing in healthcare infrastructure and services to meet the needs of Abuja residents and visitors alike.
