Emohua Council Chairman Denies Reinstatement Claims, Says Protesters Are Not Council Staff
The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Sir Chidi Lloyd, has denied claims that some individuals who failed the council’s biometric verification exercise were later reinstated as staff of the council by Rivers State Governor, Siminialaye Fubara.
In a statement on Tuesday, Lloyd challenged those making the allegation to provide documentary evidence, insisting that genuine council staff are not being owed salaries.
He described the protesters agitating over unpaid wages as persons who were never employed by the local government but were illegally placed on the payroll without following civil service procedures. He dismissed the alleged reinstatement as “laughable,” noting that the individuals involved have not been able to substantiate their claims.
Reiterating his administration’s resolve to sanitize the council’s payroll system, the chairman advised any verified staff who believe they have been denied payment to formally write to the council with relevant documents for verification, instead of resorting to protests and what he termed “cheap blackmail.”
