In a bid to mitigate the impact of the anticipated 2025 flood, the Rivers State Flood Committee, comprising officials from the State Ministry of Works, Nigerian Army, and Nigerian Air Force,
conducted a second Pre-Flood Assessment Visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area's IDP camps on July 9, 2025.
The delegation, warmly received by the Administrator of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Mr. Promise Jacob, aimed to assess the local government's preparedness and evaluate the environmental implications of the impending flood. A key objective of the visit was to establish a functional alert system that would facilitate seamless communication from the community level to the local government and ultimately to the state level.
During the visit, the committee inspected the temporary IDP camps and assessed the existing infrastructure, drainage systems, and emergency response plans. The team also engaged with local stakeholders, including community leaders and residents, to gain a deeper understanding of the flood-related challenges facing the area.
The Administrator of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Mr. Promise Jacob, reaffirmed the local government's commitment to flood management initiatives and pledged to work closely with the state government and other stakeholders to ensure the safety of citizens.
The visit demonstrates the Rivers State Government and Ahoada West Local Government Area proactive approach to mitigating the impact of the anticipated flood and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
The committee's findings and recommendations will inform future flood management initiatives, enabling the state government to develop targeted strategies to address the unique challenges facing Ahoada West Local Government Area and other flood-prone communities.
