A brewing crisis is currently rocking the Adamawa State chapter of the newly revived African Democratic Congress as the Chairman Comrade Shehu Yohanna accused the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Babachir Lawal, of being a spy in the party.
Yohanna in an exclusive phone chat with Arewa PUNCH on Thursday from his Abuja hotel, said that the former SGF was deployed by the ruling All Progressives Congress to spy on ADC, saying that with Lawal ADC will not move forward.
In his response, the former SGF told Arewa PUNCH on the phone from his Abuja abode that Yohanna was only running away from his shadow.
“Yohanna is an interim chairman by arrangement because he resigned and contested for the House of Representatives in 2023, so he can not claim to be the legitimate chairman of the party,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yohanna further accused Lawal of working hard to replace him with his candidate since he could not control him to support his private project.
“Lawal is working to replace me with his tribal man, Suleiman Umana, but his project will not see the light of the day. It is not today that I started politics. I started this game from my secondary school days to university, so I’m not a novice in the game of politics,” he boasted.
Yohanna who also cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to be careful of the political antics of the former SGF, pointed out that he is not exactly the main target, stressing that Lawal’s major objective is to ground the presidential ambition of Atiku, come 2027 on the game plan of thè APC.
He maintained that it is only when there are delegates that a Congress could hold to replace him, but not on the antics of an individual using illegal means.
Yohanna disclosed that Atiku will formerly collect his ADC membership card in Jada Local Government, his home town on August 6.
Lawal on his part insisted that based on the Constitution of ADC, Yohanna is not a legitimate chairman but an interim leader based on an internal arrangement of the party.
“Let him go and read the Constitution of the party. He is ignorant that he was not elected at any Congress. He should tender the result or report of the Congress that elected him. He is just afraid that he is going to be replaced.
“It is laughable for any normal person to say that I’m working for APC or president Tinubu. Normal people who know me will tell you that the last thing I will do is to support APC in my life,” he said.
Lawal recalled that during the days of the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, he only worked for Buhari and not his party.
“I did not work for any APC candidate, including the Adamawa State governorship candidate, apart from Buhari. So, how can I work for Tinubu or APC today?” he queried.
