BREAKINNG NEWS: My developmental strides inspired by Awolowo’s legacy – Adeleke
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said that his administration’s developmental strides are inspired by the visionary legacy of the late Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Receiving the Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Bimbo Ashiru, and his team during a courtesy visit to his office in Osogbo on Tuesday, Adeleke described his government as the “true progressives,” committed to people-focused governance.
The governor said his admiration for Awolowo’s leadership model in the First Republic motivated his government’s ambitious infrastructure projects and policy initiatives.
“Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his crop of administrators are legendary figures. They saw the future and attempted to create it in their time. They are my inspiration—especially as my family has strong roots in the Awoist philosophy,” Adeleke said.
He continued, “That is why, under two years, we have implemented far-reaching developmental programmes. We are as ambitious as the Awoist cabinet. We are building flyovers, dualising roads, and upgrading schools, healthcare facilities, and water schemes across the state.”
Positioning his administration as a beacon of progressive governance, the governor said, “When you talk about progressive politics, don’t look any further. We are the true progressives.
We are building people and society. This is pro-people leadership, and we are attending to the direct and immediate needs of the people.”
Speaking on Osun State’s involvement in Odu’a Investment Company, Adeleke pledged continued support, noting that his administration would explore new opportunities to increase the state’s equity participation in the conglomerate.
“Odu’a is a legacy corporation that reminds us of the innovation and foresight of our First Republic leaders. Their achievements challenge me to do more for Osun,” he added.
In his remarks, Ashiru praised Adeleke’s leadership and outlined the company’s vision for expanded partnership with Osun State.
He disclosed that the group had incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle, South-West Resources Limited, to drive investments in solid minerals and called on the governor’s support for access to mining licenses and other necessary approvals.
“With your backing, we can catalyse responsible mining operations that will generate significant revenue for Osun and create employment while maintaining high environmental and social standards,” Ashiru said.
He also highlighted Osun’s agrarian potential, expressing interest in value-chain development and seeking allocation of land for agribusiness initiatives.
“OICL is committed to strategic investments in agriculture—from production to export. We humbly seek your support in accessing portions of the state’s agricultural land bank,” he added.
