BREAKING NEWS: GOV. FUBARA HOLDS VALEDICTORY SESSION, DROPS COMMISSIONERS AFFECTED BY SUPREME COURT VERDICT

GOV. FUBARA HOLDS VALEDICTORY SESSION, DROPS COMMISSIONERS AFFECTED BY SUPREME COURT VERDICT

It has emerged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 dropped some of his cabinet Commissioners not screened by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly.

The Commissioners appointed and screened during the political crisis in the State were dropped following the peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu at the period of the emergency rule to stabilize the polity in the State.

Report indicates the development on Wednesday soon after a valedictory meeting with the cabinet members in Government House, Port Harcourt, where he informed the affected Commissioners of the decision.

Recall that following the Supreme Court judgment that further empowered Amaewhule-led House of Assembly to resume sitting and the subsequent declaration of state of emergency in the State by President Bola Tinubu suspending the political structure for six months to pave the way for peaceful resolution of the impasse, and with the lifting of the suspension that reinstated the governor and the House as part of the peace deal, the affected Commissioners were to be dropped to enable the governor present fresh nomination to the Amaewhule-led Assembly for screening.

Governor Fubara in an independence day message reaffirmed his commitment to serve the State with renewed vigor, while thanking all citizens for their support, and wished all Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary.

The Governor in a statement also relieved the appointments of the unscreened Commissioners and other public officers affected by the Supreme Court judgment.
