INEC announces date for Anambra governorship election
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmud Yakubu stated this in Abuja during a quarterly consultative committee meeting with leaders of Political Parties.
Professor Yakubu said in compliance with the mandatory requirement of 360 days, the formal notice for the election would be published on the 13th November 2024 while Party primaries is scheduled for 20th March 2025 to 10th April 2025.
On how far the Commission had gone in the preparations for the Ondo State Governorship election, Professor Yakubu explained that register of voters had been presented to political parties in INEC State office in Akure while the Commission was working to ensure that identification tags for each of the 24,148 agents were uploaded to INEC portal.
He said that the collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) from the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) had commenced in Ondo State and that the cards would be available for collection at each of the 203 wards across the State.
Prof Yakubu appealed to political parties to support the Commission in mobilizing registered voters to collect their PVCs.
In a remark, The Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle urged stakeholders in the electoral process to commence Voter Education, Sensitisation and Mobilisation to ensure a free, fair, credible, transparent, inclusive, and election that would meet International Standards.
He also urged political parties and their candidates to imbibe issue-based campaigns and eschew politics of bitterness.
Alhaji Dantalle called on the commission to put its act together, provide adequate electoral materials, test run its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS and INEC Result Viewing Portal, IReV to avoid undue technical hitches and glitches that would cast doubt on the integrity of the election.
