Court nullifies PDP governorship primaries in Edo
The Peoples Democratic Party’s February 22, 2024, primary election, which produced Asue Ighodalo as its governorship candidate, was ruled unlawful on Thursday by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja.
Justice Ekwo made the declaration while delivering judgment in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024, which was instituted by the aggrieved delegates, particularly, Kelvin Mohammed in a representative capacity.
Judge Ekwo declared the primaries invalid, citing PDP’s illegal exclusion of 378 delegates who were eligible to cast ballots in the primary election.
The court ruled that the primary election at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin was conducted in a manner that violated the PDP rules as well as the requirements of the Electoral Act 2022.
