Euros 2024: Germany snub Adeyemi
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has left Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi out of the Die Mannschaft squad for the UEFA Euro 2024 championship, scheduled to take place in Germany next month, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The winger was a surprise omission from Nagelsmann ‘s 27-man squad for the tournament in Germany, having had an impressive season for Dortmund.
The German player of Nigerian descent has been a key figure in Borussia Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final, where they will face Real Madrid next Month, but Nagelsmann preferred to stick with an unchanged team that beat France and the Netherlands in March.
Despite playing as a winger, the 22-year-old, so far this season, has scored five goals while contributing two assists in 32 games across all competitions.
Having represented Germany in various youth categories, including the U-16s, U-17s, and U-21s, Adeyemi made his senior debut for the German national team in a 6–0 victory over Armenia in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on September 5, 2021, scoring his first goal for the senior team as a late substitute in injury time.
Despite being named in the German squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Adeyemi did not appear in any matches, as Germany exited the tournament in the group stage.
His last appearance for the German national team was in 2022 against Hungary.
