Olympic qualifier: NVF invites nine players to camp
in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers, the Nigeria Volleyball Federation has invited nine players to camp as the Nigeria women’s beach volleyball team hopes to pick the only ticket from Africa, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The qualifiers hold in Morocco from June 19 to 23.
PUNCH Sports Extra reported that the Nigeria women’s beach volleyball team would resume camp on Friday, April 26 where they will be put through rigorous training by coach Kayode Ajilore.
“The girls are preparing for a qualifier which is coming up in June and they will resume camp on Friday,” Dare Kuti, media assistant to the president of the volleyball federation, told PUNCH Sports Extra.
“The list of players expected in camp will be released soon and made available to the media although they (players) have been contacted.”
On Friday, Kuti confirmed the list of the invited players to our correspondent.
“The following players and coaches are to resume Beach Camp from April 28 to June 28 at Kaduna in preparation for the continental Beach championship in Morocco.
“Esther Mbah (Nasarawa State University), Pamela Bawa (NY Spikers Abuja), Francisca Ikheide (Nigeria Customs Service), Naomi Yaro (Kada Emeralds), Sarah Sanda (Kada Emeralds), Ifunanya Udeagbala (Anambra Queens), Sharon Sunday (Kada Princess), Agape Sunday (Destiny Spikers) and Blessing Lawrence (Peace Spikers).”
The women’s beach volleyball team won a bronze medal at the 13th African Games in Ghana to book a place in the qualifiers.
Host nation France were automatically granted one out of the 24 spots, while the United States, winners of the 2023 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, have also secured one spot.
According to FIVB, the winners of each of the five continental confederations’ Olympic qualification events earn one spot and Nigeria will hope to pick the available slot from
Africa.
