Plateau: Gov Mutfwang Bans Open Grazing

Plateau Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has issued Executive Order 003, 2024, banning open grazing and implementing strict measures to sanitize the city of Jos and Bukuru metropolis. The order aims to restore the original Jos Master Plan and address various concerns including indiscriminate building construction, traffic congestion, and stray animal movement within the Greater Jos Master Plan area.

The order, disclosed by the General Manager of Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB), Hart Bankat, highlights several key regulations. These include annual review of processing fees and building plan fees, prohibition of building erection without approval, and imposition of fines for violations such as pasting posters on public infrastructure or trading in undesignated areas.

Additionally, the order restricts the parking of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles in the metropolis, prohibits stray animals, and imposes fines on defaulters. Furthermore, it restricts the entry of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles into the Central Business Area during certain hours.

Bankat emphasized that the order was prompted by the rapid population growth in Jos and Bukuru metropolis. The implementation of these measures is expected to enhance urban planning, ensure public safety, and promote orderly development within the Greater Jos Master Plan area.
