Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the northern region, which played a major role in the president’s victory in the 2023 presidential election, is now suffering the most under his government.

Dalung made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, September 14, 2026, while reflecting on the political decisions that shaped the 2023 election.

According to the former minister, a significant portion of the 5.5 million votes attributed to Tinubu came from northern Nigeria, where many voters, he alleged, were persuaded by the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

He argued that the support the North gave Tinubu has not resulted in the improvements many voters expected. Instead, he maintained that the region has become one of the biggest casualties of the policies and decisions of the present administration.

“5.5 million votes Tinubu got came predominantly from the northern part of Nigeria, who were also deceived with the Muslim-Muslim ticket,” Dalung said.

“As it stands today, the North, which donated the 5.5 million votes, is the worst victim of Tinubu’s government in everything.”

Dalung’s comments have added to the ongoing debate over the political choices made by northern voters during the 2023 presidential election and whether the expectations surrounding the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket have been fulfilled.

His remarks are also likely to fuel further discussions about the impact of the Tinubu administration’s policies on the North and other parts of the country.
