Five miners have reportedly been killed and two others injured following an attack by gunmen at a mining site in Marit village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday while the victims were reportedly engaged in mining activities at the site.
According to reports, the attack has left residents of the community in mourning and heightened concerns over the safety of miners and other residents in the area.
Confirming the incident, Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, said five people lost their lives in the attack, while two others sustained injuries.
The motive behind the attack and the identities of those responsible were not immediately known as of the time of reporting.
The latest incident has further raised concerns about security in parts of Plateau State, particularly in communities where mining activities remain an important source of livelihood.
