BREAKING NEWS: Fubara Approves 50% Increase in Rivers Judiciary Overhead, Reaffirms Commitment to Autonomy

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a 50 per cent increase in overhead expenditure for the state judiciary and its institutions, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to judicial independence and constitutional autonomy.

The governor also assured judges and magistrates across the state of continued government support aimed at strengthening the administration of justice and improving the efficiency of the judicial system.

Fubara made the announcement on Thursday, September 24, 2026, while speaking at the Special Court Session marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 Legal Year at the Ceremonial Court Hall of the High Court Complex in Port Harcourt.

He said the increased funding was part of efforts to provide the judiciary with the resources required to effectively perform its constitutional responsibilities.

The governor further reiterated that his administration would continue to respect the independence of the judiciary as the third arm of government while supporting initiatives that enhance access to justice and the effective functioning of the courts.

The development comes as Rivers State begins a new legal year, with the judiciary expected to play a central role in the administration of justice and the protection of citizens' rights.
