BREAKING NEWS: Opposition Parties Move to Build United Front Ahead of 2027 Elections

Opposition Parties Move to Build United Front Ahead of 2027 Elections

Nigeria’s opposition political parties are intensifying efforts to form a united alliance aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The initiative is being driven by the G100 coalition, which has announced plans to convene a National Opposition Summit designed to bring together opposition leaders and political stakeholders to develop a coordinated strategy for the upcoming polls.

The development was revealed during a recent engagement between the coalition and members of the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives in Abuja.

Speaking at the meeting, G100 Convener Salihu Lukman stressed the importance of unity among opposition parties, arguing that a fragmented opposition would struggle to effectively compete against the APC. According to him, the time has come for political groups with similar objectives to set aside their differences and work collectively toward a common goal.

The coalition currently includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Lukman explained that the proposed National Opposition Summit would serve as a platform for discussions on electoral strategy, coalition-building, and the development of a shared political agenda capable of attracting broad national support ahead of the 2027 elections.

In response, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi, expressed support for the initiative, stating that opposition lawmakers have embraced the G100's vision. He assured the coalition that members of the Minority Caucus would collaborate closely with the group to advance its objectives.

The latest move highlights growing momentum among opposition forces seeking to strengthen their political influence and present a more formidable challenge in the 2027 presidential and legislative elections. Political observers believe that successful cooperation among the various parties could significantly reshape Nigeria’s political landscape as the next election cycle approaches.

With preparations already underway, the planned summit is expected to play a crucial role in determining whether the opposition can overcome internal divisions and establish a united platform capable of mounting a strong challenge to the APC in 2027.
