Chidi Odinkalu, a lawyer and political analyst, has stated he became a lawyer in Nigerian 10 years before FCT Minister Nyesom Wike became a lawyer in 1998. He made this statement after Wike described him as "online lawyer"
During the 90 Minutes Africa programme on Iroko Post TV, Odinkalu said he has worked independently without relying on government jobs in Nigeria.
Odinkalu said he has never been paid a salary by the Nigerian government, except during his time as a youth corps member. Odinkalu challenged Wike to also say the same about himself. He stated that, in his view, Wike has not had a legitimate professional life outside working for the Nigerian government.
In Odinkalu's words: "Wike became a lawyer in 1998, by that time I had been a lawyer for over 10 years in Nigeria at least. And I have put in work in all manner of places and I have never been paid a salary by the Nigerian government or any institution in Nigeria except as a youth corper. I want Wike to say the same thing. The man has not had a legitimate life outside the Nigerian state"
