The Peoples Democratic Party Advocate for Peace and Justice in Akwa Ibom State has called on Governor Umo Eno to return to the PDP, describing his defection to the All Progressives Congress as “a grave miscalculation—bleak, unsustainable, and rooted in expediency rather than principle.”
The call was contained in a statement on Thursday by the group’s chairman, Dr Tom Fredfish.
“We urge Governor Umo Eno to retrace his steps and return to the Peoples Democratic Party while there is still room for redemption.
“Governance is not about endless political manoeuvring; it is about selfless service, vision, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
Akwa Ibom deserves a leader who is focused, courageous, and people-centred – not one distracted by petty rivalries and internal squabbles,” the group said.
It urged the governor to choose service over desperation, responsibility over recklessness, and the people over personal ambition, adding that the PDP remained his natural and “comfortable” political home.
“His current struggles betray the reality of a man caught among strange allies who neither share his vision nor repose genuine trust in his leadership. The truth remains that the APC is not, and cannot be, his natural political home,” the statement added.
The group also condemned Eno’s recent claim that he controls all political structures in the state, describing the remark as unbecoming of a leader.
“The PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice has expressed deep concern over the recent statement credited to Governor Umo Eno, in which he claimed ownership of all political structures in Akwa Ibom State.
“Such an utterance is highly regrettable and paints the governor as one more desperate to consolidate political power than to deliver on the mandate of good governance,” the statement read.
It added that it was unfortunate for the governor to dissipate energy on political grandstanding when citizens were yearning for responsive leadership.
“At a time when Akwa Ibom people earnestly expect responsive and impactful leadership, the governor has chosen to dissipate energy on needless political grandstanding rather than addressing the pressing socio-economic challenges facing citizens.
“It is a matter of public record that the entire political structure of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State was openly handed over to Governor Umo Eno by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
“This, therefore, begs the question: What other structure is the governor struggling for, and against whom? Such reckless posturing only underscores a lack of clarity, conviction, and direction in his political journey,” the group added.
