RSIEC fixes Date for 23 LGA elections in Rivers State.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced October 5 for conduct of local government elections.

The announcement was made by the RISEC chairman, Adolphus Enebeli, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The Governor inaugurated caretaker committees to run the affairs of the local government areas while the ousted chairmen were still laying claims to their seats following the six-month tenure elongation granted them by the Martins Amaewhule-led lawmakers.

Enebeli said that it is time to respond to the calls from stakeholders to the conduct of elections following the end of tenure for the previous local government chairmen and councilors.

This development is coming amidst the ongoing local government succession crisis caused by the conflict between Governor Siminialayi Fubara and the Martins Amaewhule-led lawmakers.
