Autopsy results for Lucy and Mohbad
Almost 50 years ago, on November 24, 1974, the fossils of one of the oldest known human ancestors, an Australopithecus afarensis specimen nicknamed “Lucy,” were discovered in Hadar, Ethiopia.
Lucy was dated to about 3.2 million years ago. Only 40 percent of her skeleton was recovered.
Autopsy (cause of death)
There are indications of degenerative disease in her vertebrae that do not necessarily indicate old age. It is believed that she was a mature but young adult when she died.
"In 2016, researchers at the University of Texas at Austin suggested that Lucy died after falling from a tall tree."
Cause of death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad:
"The pathologist said the body ought to have been exhumed within 12 hours after it was buried to avoid decomposition. So the summary he is giving is that the cause of death cannot be ascertained."
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and was buried a day later. He was exhumed on September 21, 2023.
